Atrial fibrillation is the most common heart arrhythmia in horses and can seriously impact their performance. Transvenous electrical cardioversion (TVEC) is a treatment option which involves the use of electrical stimulation catheters inserted via the jugular vein and positioned near the heart. Electrical stimulation is then used to correct the irregular cardiac rhythm.
The TVEC catheters have been developed with the considerable help and guidance of Dr Peter Physick-Sheard BVSc, MSc, FRCVS associate professor in the Department of Population Medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph. Digitimer Ltd is very grateful for his past and ongoing support.
