Narishige PC-100 Pipette Puller

Digitimer has been supplying the Narishige PC-100 Pipette Puller since its introduction in 2017.  Four years since its launch, we take a look at some of the features that make the PC-100 one of the most popular and budget friendly pipette pullers you can buy.

A robust puller ideal for a multi-user environment

Many patch-clamp electrophysiologists or researchers carrying out micro-injection techniques will have come across many of Narishige’s long line of pullers during their careers, including the PP-83, PP-830 and PC-10.  Of course, there are other well known brands of pipette puller, but for many the robust and simple controls that the Narishige pullers provide are perfect for a multi-user environment, such as a busy research lab. In contrast, some of the more expensive competitors have higher cost consumables, more fragile components that can go wrong or be broken by mis-handling, resulting in far higher servicing costs.

The Narishige PC-100 was introduced as an updated replacement for the PC-10 which is still found in laboratories all over the world.

The PC-100 enables the user to produce a wide range of pipettes with tip sizes ranging from tens of µm down to 1µm. The puller can be operated in one or two pull modes allowing greater flexibility in pipette shape.

As with the PC-10, the PC-100 Narishige puller employs gravity as its pulling force and is supplied with four weights (two light and two heavy), in order to vary this force. Continuing in the tradition of its predecessor, the Narishige PC-100 has been designed to be versatile, reliable, robust and easy to use.

Improvements over its predecessors

The basic functions of the PC-100 pipette puller remain the same as the PC-10, but it has been made significantly easier to operate.  Here are the major changes:-

  • Simple and easy to use; set-up is easier than previous designs
  • Digital display clearly shows status and setting
  • Heating value can be adjusted at any time, even after the needle is placed in the heater coil
  • Acrylic cover closes securely
  • Elapsed time (from the “START” to end) is shown clearly in the display
  • The slider unit is protected from dust and debris
  • The Narishige PC-100 puller is supplied with a sample of capillary glass (90mm by 1mm o.d. with filament) and a spare heater element.
