Acquisition of the HumBug Noise Eliminator
Manufacturing & distribution moves to the UK
What is the Hum Bug?
The original Hum Bug noise eliminator was developed in the electrophysiology laboratory of Dr. Tom Richardson in response to problems with electrical interference during intracellular studies. In theory, proper attention to grounding and appropriate shielding can eliminate 50/60 Hz noise induced by electrical wiring, power supplies, and lights. In practice, this noise remains a frequent and distressing problem in the daily operation of many electrophysiology laboratories. Even with diligent attention to detail, noise may come and go for no apparent reason and may appear during critical phases of data collection. The effort required to maintain noise at an acceptable level is time consuming and frustrating.
The Hum Bug is a simple and hassle free solution to these problems. It will eliminate electrical interference from physiological recordings without altering your signal of interest. Simply insert it into the signal path of your recording system and it will automatically eliminate noise without any need for adjustment. A unique product with an unrivalled reputation for effective noise removal
Manufactured in Canada by Quest Scientific Instruments Inc., the Hum Bug has been distributed by Digitimer for over 20 years and in that time it has earned a global reputation as the “gold standard” device for effective mains noise removal, without compromising signal quality. In fact, Digitimer used the Quest Scientific Hum Bug as our benchmark for performance when we developed our own D400 range of multi-channel active mains noise eliminators. Coupled with a reputation for incredible reliability and easy-to-use controls, the Hum Bug really is one of those instruments you can plug in and forget!

The Hum Bug becomes a Digitimer brand
Having been associated with the device for such a long time, we are delighted to announce that, with the retirement Quest Scientific’s management team, they have chosen to transfer ownership of the Hum Bug Noise Eliminator to Digitimer Limited. This decision will allow us to continue to manufacture, develop and globally distribute this extremely popular and important brand. Acquisition of the Hum Bug means that Digitimer can continue to offer the Hum Bug alongside our own D400 Multi-channel Noise Eliminators. With the imminent arrival of an 8 channel version of our D400, we will soon be able to offer noise elimination solutions for applications involving electrophysiological recordings of 1, 2, 4 or 8 channels.
