Description

Description

The D187 is currently in development, however, if you have any interest in trialling a prototype or have any further questions about its suitability for your research, please get in touch with us.

The D187 Advanced Remote Electrode Selector expands on the capabilities of the D188/D189, but rather than operating in discrete anode/cathode pairs, the D187 allows the user to arbitrarily define the connection state and polarity of individual sockets.

This means that any two of the 16 outputs can operate as an anode/cathode pair or that combinations of electrodes can be linked within the D187.  The latter might be useful where a researcher wants to use a single cathode stimulating electrode, but select multiple “return” anodes.  With switching times of a few milliseconds, the D187 Remote Electrode Selector can be used for demanding stimulation applications involving multi-location stimulation in studies of pain, cognitive behaviour, rehabilitation or sensory perception.  The D187 is suitable for use with high or low voltage stimulators (up to 400V).

Manual or Digital Control Options

The D187 is supplied with Control Panel software compatible with Windows 10 and higher, which permits Internal or External control of each output socket state between (i) disconnected (ii) +ve polarity or (iii) -ve polarity.  Internal mode allows the output state to be determined by clicking a graphical representation of the D187 front panel.  In External mode, the state of the outputs is determined by the status of the rear panel digital inputs or software control (via USB connection).

When a D187 output socket is set to a particular polarity, it becomes electrically connected to any other output sockets sharing that polarity, as well as the associated input socket i.e. the stimulator anode (red) or cathode (blue) connection.

As each of the 16 output sockets can be set to three possible states, there are over 43 million potential configurations.  Output configurations required for a particular protocol may determined via our graphical user interface and numerically stored/viewed within the D187 as decimal, binary or hexadecimal values.  Previously defined configurations may then be recalled via changes in the state of the 8 digital inputs.

For convenience, the D187 Control Panel software also allows users to export and import CSV files containing protocol specific configuration information, meaning the D187 can be rapidly reconfigured for different users and their experiments.

Designed for Research Applications

The D187 is not medical device and use is restricted to research applications, however, it has been designed to meet certain aspects of IEC 60601-1, specifically relating to safety in human use.

The D187 is not supplied with any stimulator input or electrode connection cables, however, it is possible to purchase additional plugs and cables to suit your requirements.  These allow direct connection to our complete range of isolated stimulators. We also offer output extension cables in order to increase the distance between the stimulating electrode and the D187 output sockets.

Multiple Stimulator Connection Options

Recommended Connection via D185-HB4 Output Adaptor Cable
For direct connection to a D185-HB4 Output Extension Cable, the D188-09 (200cm) or D188-10 (50cm) 1.5mm cables can be connected between the D188/D189 Electrode Selector and the D185-HB4.
