HEKA Elektronik Hardware & Software

The HEKA website contains a large amount of information, including downloadable users manuals for all their products and a frequently asked questions section.  Below are some of the more frequent questions which Digitimer have been asked.

1.  I need to get some replacement o-rings for my HEKA pipette holder (PIPHOLD), is it possible to obtain them from Digitimer?
2.  I have heard that the EPC10 amplifier and LIH1600 interface are currently only compatible with computers running a Windows operating system.  As a Mac user I am keen to acquire data with a Mac.  Is this true?
3.  Is it possible to open PULSE files on a Mac if the data was acquired and saved in a Windows version of PULSE?
4.  I want to upgrade to the latest version of Pulse, how can I obtain a copy of the software?
5.  The screw-on end cap of my pipette holder has broken, do I need a new holder or are replacement caps available?
6.  Is it possible to export data acquired in PatchMaster and analyse it within PulseFit, PulseTools or PulseSim?
7.  I am thinking of upgrading to PatchMaster, but I also have a PulseFit Analysis Dongle, how will I be able to analyze my acquired data on another computer if I upgrade?

1.   I need to get some replacement o-rings for my HEKA pipette holder (PIPHOLD), is it possible to obtain them from Digitimer?

Yes, the part number is MTE011 (for a pack of 10) and they can be supplied in two sizes.  Black o-rings are suitable for all glass sizes up to 1.9mm o.d. while a blue version is required for 2mm glass.  Please contact us for a price quote.

2.  I have heard that the EPC10 amplifier is currently only compatible with computers running a Windows operating system.  As a Mac user I am keen to control the amplifier with a Mac.  Is this true?

This was true until recently, however, HEKA have now launched their PatchMaster acquisition software which is both Win and Mac compatible.  This new software is much more advanced than Pulse and has allowed Heka to incorporate many new and improved features which would not have been possible within the architecture of Pulse.  With the arrival of PatchMaster, it has been decided that Pulse will NOT be developed to support use of the EPC10 under a MacOS environment.  Existing Pulse users who would like to start using PatchMaster can purchase an upgrade from Digitimer.

3.  Is it possible to open PULSE files on a Mac if the data was acquired and saved in a Windows version of PULSE?

Following on from the question above, it is indeed possible to acquire data on one platform and analyse on a different one.  You would of course need the appropriate hardware dongles (parallel port key for Win PC and USB for Mac) to allow the software to run properly.

4.  I want to upgrade to the latest version of Pulse, how can I obtain a copy of the software?

HEKA's website (www.heka.com) has a section dedicated to software downloads, including the latest versions of Pulse/PulseFit and PatchMaster.  All users are encouraged to use the most up to date versions available, however, it should be pointed out that files saved in Pulse version 8.60 cannot be opened in earlier versions of the software.

5.  The screw-on end cap of my pipette holder has broken, do I need a new holder or are replacement caps available?

These end caps can fail if they are excessively tightened and replacements are available from us.  Please contact us for up to date price information.

6.  Is it possible to export data acquired in PatchMaster and analyse it within PulseFit, PulseTools or PulseSim?

It is possible to export PatchMaster data in Pulse v8.6 format, however because the PatchMaster data files are significantly more complex, data must be acquired within PatchMaster using the precise settings outlined here.

7.  I am thinking of upgrading to PatchMaster, but I also have a PulseFit Analysis Dongle, how will I be able to analyze my acquired data on another computer if I upgrade?

HEKA provide an analysis package called FitMaster which is capable of opening and analyzing data recorded in Pulse or PatchMaster.  Each FitMaster licence provides the user with 2 USB dongles to be used on the acquisition rig and on an analysis computer.
