Nerve and Muscle Excitability
Workshop, Chicheley Hall, September 2011
Prof Hugh Bostock & Dr Susan Tomlinson are
planning another 3-day course on nerve excitability testing, this
time at the Royal Society's recently refurbished
Chicheley
Hall. This will be an intensive, residential course, running
from midday Wednesday September 21st to midday Saturday September
24th.
Like the first nerve excitability workshops
held in Queen Square, this is currently planned primarily as a
beginner's course, to introduce clinical neurophysiologists (and
others interested in axonal pathophysiology) to the 'Trond'
protocol for assessing nerve membrane properties in vivo by
excitability testing. It is expected to cover the biophysical
basis of nerve excitability, and to provide practical experience
of excitability testing with Qtrac/Trond software, and analysis
and interpretation of the results. It will be similar to the
earlier workshops, but with more emphasis on the expanding
clinical uses of this technique. An opportunity will probably also
be provided to see how muscle membrane properties can be studied
in vivo*, and possibly also properties of C fibres with
microneurography.
Depending on demand, we
may also set up a later 2-day workshop, for those with some
experience of excitability testing, to deal with advanced topics,
modelling etc. and with an opportunity to present results for
discussion.
If you think you or a colleague may be
interested in this or later workshops, please
contact us to request further
information.
Please note that at present only the dates
above and the maximum number of 20 participants (with 5 equipment
sets and 5 tutors) are fixed. The programme is flexible. Depending
upon interest, a detailed prospectus and the exact cost will be
circulated to interested parties and relevant societies by about
the end of January.
